We always imagine Jeff Tweedy winking at the start.
“Nothing’severgonnastandinmyway” and why it will be the first song on our growing #ShowerAnthem playlist.
1. There’s an alarm bell.
2. It’s about making it happen. Every. Damn. Day.
3. Jaunty!
4. Clap-along! You can clap along!
5. Gentleman in the background 50s style crooning and almost shouting along with happiness.
6. Just The Best.

Tightrope, as sung Janelle Monae and Big Boi, a mostly safe #ShowerAnthem.
Warning: you will want to soft shoe. (Or whatever you imagine soft shoeing to be.) But this tune and this girl are all about the smooth, about keeping one’s balance. Your balance, our balance, Monae’s balance. BALANCE. You can’t argue with these lyrics. So suds up, tip on the t-rope, but stay standing.
The singer Diamond Rings, a 2-D green screen, basketball gear, pastel eyeshadow and a yearbook photo shoot. #ShowerAnthem! Sure, he’s a unique one, but boy do we fancy him. This video is all awkward posing and great joy—the best start to any day—and it makes us so very happy every time. Sometimes we even smile, despite the danger of shampoo suds in the mouth. He’s really worth it. (As is the song, highly recommended.)
This has been too long in coming. Bon Iver is #TubTune personified; Holocene, when played on repeat, is guaranteed to put you in a state of thoughtful hypnosis, reflective paralysis. But in a good way.
Combined with a hot bath and a burning Nightingale Song Candela? That’s pretty much the whole point of the #tubtune.
You may never come down.
Note: Shower fist-pumping is much safer than shower break-dancing.
This #ShowerAnthem, “Need You Now” by Cut Copy, is a slow, energetic burn, but we are always fist pumping by the end. Which, no, that’s not especially cool. But we’re in the shower! Alone! Private time! #SafetyFirst
James Blake’s cover of Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You.” The video stars the many faces of Rebecca Hall and makes for an especially powerful #Tubtune this Sunday. Relaxing, but powerful. The song is gorgeous and emotional; she is gorgeous and emotional. And should you need more incentive to watch and listen, we promise you’ll get to see Ms. Hall in the bath for a few fleeting moments.
It’s all oddly moving.
There is no better #ShowerAnthem than Lykke Li’s I’m Good I’m Gone. Save this one for days when you’ve woken up (too) bright and (too) early, just to make a little butter for your piece of bun. That’s right: butter for your piece of bun. Then play on repeat
Also, this video is a treat: schoolmarms breakdancing, Lykke semi-shadowboxing, old men, ghostly body builders, pretend backstroking, and little girls in period costumes skipping down empty school hallways. There may be comparably winning shower anthems—the hook in Rick Ross’s Every Day I’m Hustlin comes close—but simply no better.
I Wanna Dance With Somebody. She could be so bright and full. Icon.
